This new version does not really differ from the first one, but I have made too many changes. Remarkable improvements will be found in the structure of many sections and chapters, and many relate to the detail of style. The number of examples of the first half of the book has increased. As far as the new one is introduced, the guidelines are particularly memorable. These are given in the form of summaries in different parts of the book to help use the material that has been presented up to that moment. This improvement springs from pedagogical experiences, as well as another: A number of my suggestions that in the original version left the pupil options that would be unpleasant to the teacher are now binding, more exclusive. In every detail, however, there are many, sometimes extensive additions, a number of which are also concerned with principles. Generally, I am happy to note that I was able to leave the book unchanged even where I have come a step further towards the truth since I wrote the first edition.
